Assignment 14:

My portrait uses framing, but her face is a little dark and the backgound is somewhat distracting with how bright it is. I would try to improve it by burning out the back and dogging her face out a little bit.

Assignment 12:

When taking pictures in a dramatic lighting setting and you just want to get the light of the subject and the backgroud dark you use the technique of  "going against your light meter".  You get the reading of the light meter on your camera and make the shutter speed so it is 2 faster then the original setting. Then you take the picture with it even though the light meter reading will say you don't have enough light.

Assignment 8:

I love this photo because the angle of it is much different from the everyday angles that are normally used. I also like the placement of the railing, but I think the subject's face could have been more in focus than it is.

Assignment 13:

I like this photo because there is a use of layers and vertical lines.

The child's eyes and  the woman's had are both framd within the window. I also like how the rain adds a certain feeling of loss in the photo.

I like this photo for its complicated simplicity and the subject's bright white eyes.

This portrait uses more than one subject and the girl is showing dominance.

I this portrait because it tells a story.

This picture uses different objects to tell the story of the girl. It shows that she is a writer.

I like how this picture uses a large backgound and little is shown of the subject. The simplicity of the photo makes the subject stand out.

This picture is exciting because the use of the snake makes the people who see the picture feel scared or worried. It brings out emotion from people.

The lines and the use of the random foot in this picture make the picture fun to look at.

I like how unique this photo is. Because the man's style it makes you realize all the different cultures in the world.

Assignment 11:

What makes a great portrait?

To me a great portrait means having a good angle and lighting, like in most pictures. But alos I like it when portraits are either really close up on the subject's face or when there is a big backgound that tells the story of the photograph.

Assignment 10:

After watching the National Geographic film on photography, we reflected on what we learned:

1. Five things that we learned/ were relearned by the film:
- You have to wait in photography sometimes for the perfect picture even though it may be frustrating.
- Lighting means a lot in a photograph.
- Look for different layers in a picture.
- Make sure the subjects don't intersect.

2. My favorite photographer from the film is Steve McCurry. I like his style of photography because there are many picture of people and his pictures show many different emotions. He also uses his photography to his advantage and captures different cultures' lifestyles.

3. My favorite photo is the one of the girl holding a little boy. They are both framed in the window of the car. I like it because it is not taken like your everyday photo.

4. Many of the photographers said that photography isn't all easy, which it true. But also, the photographers reinforced the ideas of that we have learned in photography including types of lighting ( like dramatic and natural) and also different angles.

Assignment 9:

I like my photo a lot, however I wish that when the positve and negative pictures lined up there would be a more interesting effect with the connecting lines. If I could improve on it I would make make the negatiave one be less burned out.

Assignment 7:

Use of framing in photography:

This photo uses the plastic play house to frame in the girl. I like it, but I wish the subject wasn't in the center.

The mountain in the photo is framed within the trees. I like how the subject is bright while the objects framing in the photo are rather dull; it makes the subject pop.

The use of likes to frame in this photo are unique. The child on the edge of the photo also make it that little bit more interesting than it would be without him.

The arc frames in the couple in this picture. There is a major use of shapes with arcs, lines, and semi-circles, making it enjoyable.

The color and the simplicity of the photo are amazing. I love how the boy has such vibrant colors both in his hair and eyes.

Assignment 6:

My hands and feet photo:

I like my picture because it uses the hands and feet well, but i wish the feet of the subject would be more in focus like the hands are.

Assignment 5

I love how different the hands in this photo are. The unique designs on the hands make you look deeper into the photo.

I like this picture for its how silly it is. The feeling that you get from this photo is what makes this photo.

The use of the open door lighting is an interesting aspect of this photo. It creates a great shadow effect and makes it fun to look at.

The angle of this photograph makes the feet be seen from a different point of view. The dropped flowers also add to the beauty of the picture.

I live the refection of the feet in the water in this photo. The contrast and the rule of thirds make it a beautiful image.

Assignment 2:

I like my picture's angle, but the counter needs to be burned in more and the colors are a little dull.

Assignment 3

Rule of Thirds:

I like this photo for it's simplicity.

The angle and the coloring in this photo are wonderful to look at.

I like how this photo has a child that is caught in his own moment.

What makes this picture fun to look at is the adorable subject. The light colors also complement the type of scene it is.

The coloring and landscape make for a beautiful photograph.

Assignment 1

I like this picture for how it shows being scared. The woman being threated makes it easy to resemble the emotion of scared.
In this photo there is the feeling of solitude. I like this photo for its simplicity, which refects its feeling of solitude.

I like this photo for its rule of thirds and its pure happy emotions represented in the girl's emotions.

This photo shows sadness. I like its colors and its use of leading lines.

I like this photo for its layers. The use of the layers and the backgroud people out of focus makes for a good representaion of jealousy.

Journal Assignment 4:

I like the stairs, which i have already photographed and also a picture taken on the second floor looking down on people on the first floor would create an interesting angle for a picture.
I might also take a picture of the quilted rug in the far top right room.

Journal Assignment 5:

I like this picture for its two girls with their totally different personalities captured in the picture. I could take a picture similarly by having a few different people in a natural enviornment and use framing around someone's face to put to focus on one of the person's face.

Journal Assignment 1 part 2:

Enlarger

Journal Assignment 3:

Words that come to my mind: Sneaky, silly, and country.
There are leading lines in the field that make the photo int eresting. I also like how simple the photo is but with just adding the man in the grass it gives it character and makes you think of the words like sneaky and silly.

Journal Assignment 13:

Jim Brandenburg had a 90 day trip where everyday he limited himself to one picture a day and still came back with some of the most beautiful pictures. In my opinion, I felt that Jim Brandenburg did this to make sure he was taking the best possible picture he could. Rather than taking advantage of an unlimited amount of pictures, he would take his time everyday to find the best picture in nature he could possibly take. It probably made him appreciate photography better.

Journal Assignment 12:

This is my favorite picture taken by Jim Brandenburg. I like it for many reasons one of them being how bright the eyes of the animal are. Not only that, but also the use of a shallow depth of field to make the sticks around it's face blurry and to create a frame for the face make it even more appealing.

Journal Assignment 11:

Critique of Lines photos:

The first photo of mine is a picture of a staircase. It uses lines by the way the stair case curves in a c shape. My second is a simpler photo of a railing at an angle. The print of photo I don't like as much because of its darkness and lack of creativity. But it could have been better if I had used a filter and decreased the exposure time of the photo.

Journal Assignment 9:

Critique of depth of field photos:

My first depth of field photo used a shallow depth of field. It was a picture of part of downhill driveway with the background of trees out of focus. I liked the picture, but it could have been improved by burning the cobblestone on the side of the driveway. My second photo uses a wide depth of field. It is a scenic picture of the tops of trees and the sunset in the sky. I also like this picture, but it is a little dark in my opinion. I could have given it a lower exposure time while printing it.

Journal Assignment 10:

Lines in pictures:

The curving road in this picture leads your eye to the sun, the focus of the picture.

The cable lines of the bridge are used as a leading line to put your focus on the man in front of the sun.

This is a simple picture using lines and distance to create the focal point at the end of the brick alleyway.

Using both rule of thirds and curved lines, this picture easily creates an esthetically pleasing photo.

This picture uses lines in nature, but what makes the picture is the simple water droplet on the edge.
